Scottish Borders Council has been advised to reject supermarket plans on the outskirts of Jedburgh.

Leading development and property management service company Sheppy Industries plans to build a store on the land formerly occupied by Oregon Timber Frame Ltd on Edinburgh Road.

The controversial scheme has attracted opposition in Jedburgh.

Local traders have voiced concerns about the impact a supermarket of this scale could have on their businesses and a report to councillors reiterated the adverse impact it could have on the town centre, advising a refusal.

However, many Jedburgh residents are keen to see increased competition and the local community council has also backed the application.
