It has been reported that approvals for new housing association homes in the west of Scotland are down by 40% this year, compared with last year.

The announcement of funding cuts were made on the same day that several housing associations picked up major awards at the Herald Property Awards for Scotland.

The award winning associations, including Blochairn Housing Association and Govanhill Housing Association, told The Herald that neither of their projects would have been possible to accomplish under the greatly reduced grant levels now set by the Scottish Government.

The article coincided with a new briefing by Glasgow and West of Scotland Forum of Housing Associations (GWSF) on the results of bids to the Innovation and Investment Fund in the west of Scotland.

The briefing revealed that approvals for social rented housing in Glasgow are down by 60% and that three large regional and national housing bodies have won approval to build 50% of all new housing association houses approved in the 7 local authority areas where GWSF has members.

It also highlighted that only 5 local community-controlled housing associations have had bids approved, comprising just 118 houses across all 7 council areas.
