Phase 1 Of Falkirk Housing Completed

The first phase of the Falkirk Housing Project has been completed.

28 affordable rented homes were developed by Kingdom Housing Association as part of the housing development at Overton Crescent, Falkirk.

The first 14 homes have been completed and allocated to applicants from the Falkirk housing lists.

The project was developed for Kingdom by Persimmon Partnerships and will provide a mix of 14 family houses, 12 private access flats and two houses designed to full wheelchair accessibility standards.

The remaining phase of 14 homes will be completed by the end of the year.

Chief Executive with Kingdom, Alan McGuckin, said: "We have worked very closely with Falkirk Council on this project, and the new housing will help meet the growing needs for good quality affordable housing in the area.

"We also have proposals to develop a second phase of affordable housing on the site, which would provide another 23 new homes.

"However this is subject to approval by the Scottish Government, as part of a funding bid.

"The outcome of the bid will not be known until mid September and hopefully it will be approved. If the funding is approved the second phase will start on site before March next year."

Convenor of Housing & Social Work Committee, Councillor Jim Blackwood, said: "Falkirk Council is delighted to be working in partnership with Registered Social Landlords, such as Kingdom Housing Association, to deliver much needed new affordable social rented homes which will help us meet the needs of people on the housing list, maximise available funding from the Scottish Government and stimulate local investment in the building sector.

"The first 14 homes have been successfully let to applicants from Falkirk Council's housing list and a further 14 new social rented homes are expected to be available before the end of this year."

The current project cost was £3.1m and The Scottish Government, the balance being funded by Kingdom, provided approximately £1.9m of funding.
