Forty-one families in Glasgow’s East End are benefiting from 25 new flats and the restoration of two neglected tenements.

Parkhead Housing Association spent more than £5m building the new homes which were officially opened by local MP Margaret Curran MP.

Two privately owned Grade C listed tenements have been transformed into 16 homes after Parkhead HA stepped in to rejuvenate the area.

Chief Executive of Parkhead HA, Jim Strang, said: "These private tenement blocks had not been well maintained for years and were in a pretty sorry state. It's fair to say they were bringing the rest of the street down and a few private homeowners were despairing of the state of other properties in the building.

"We convinced all the owners to sell us the properties so we could modernise them and bring the accommodation up to a good standard. The refurbished properties have now been leased to Parkhead tenants."

Ms Curran added: "Parkhead Housing Association continue to excel in the standard of properties they provide for their tenants.

"I was delighted to open their latest development. Well done to the team involved who have provided over 40 families with fantastic homes in the East End."
