Keys Handed Over For Housing Development

Perth & Kinross Council has completed the latest stage of its multi-million pound council house building programme.

Keys have been handed over to tenants for the first phase of homes built in Methven.

20 houses have been built at Rorrie Terrace in the village, to accommodate families of between five to eight people.

A further ten homes are still to come.

The Methven council housing project follows on from construction work in the Letham and Friarton areas of Perth and is part of an overall project to build 81 affordable houses in locations around Perth and Kinross.

Council Leader Councillor Ian Miller and Housing and Health Vice-Convener Councillor Alasdair Wylie visited the site to see the new homes for and hand over keys to new tenants.

Councillor Miller said: "We have made a commitment to improving access to social housing in Perth and Kinross and the construction of our first new Council houses for 25 years is a key part of the work we are doing to achieve this.

"I am delighted that the building programme is progressing well and we can welcome tenants into their new homes today."

Councillor Wylie added: "The construction of these homes here in Methven and in other locations around Perth and Kinross will make a real difference to our new tenants' lives. The Council is working hard to enable people to get an affordable roof over their heads in a wide range of ways, and the completion of this latest phase of the Council house building programme is excellent news."
