Link Group Provides Affordable Homes in Kirkintilloch

One of Scotland's leading housing, regeneration and support organisations has begun the £2.1m construction of 16 homes at Taig Road, Waterside Kirkintilloch.

Link Group provides services to 10,000 families and individuals in 26 Scottish local authority areas, they acquired the site using funding provided by the Scottish Government.

Designed by MAST Architects of Glasgow and built by CCG, the properties will meet Link design standards for affordable housing, and will be available to rent by March next year.

Link has worked closely with East Dunbartonshire Council and the Scottish Government to agree costs and timescales for the project.

Following a competitive tender process, the contract was awarded to CCG.

The proposed housing mix is consistent with East Dunbartonshire Council's Local Housing Strategy and local Housing Needs Analysis and the design of the new development also includes the provision of a new play area with safe grass mat surface to replace the existing outdated equipment.

Link Group Chief Executive, Craig Sanderson, commented: "These high quality properties will contribute to alleviating the need for affordable homes in Kirkintilloch and we look forward to continuing to work with the local community and East Dunbartonshire Council as the development takes shape."

Convenor of East Dunbartonshire Council's Housing and Communities Committee, Councillor Amanda Stewart, added: "I am confident that our partnership with Link will provide an excellent standard of accommodation in the Waterside area for people on the council's waiting lists. These new rented homes will be built to varying needs standards with one of the flats specifically designed to meet the needs of a wheelchair user."
