East Renfrewshire Council has given the go ahead for the installation of a new synthetic hockey pitch and four lane 400m running track at Eastwood High School in Newton Mearns.
The site, which will be lit by six 18 metre high floodlights, is located at the rear of Capelrig House.
The pitch and track will be enclosed by three metre high mesh fencing and, as well as being used by the school, will also be available for community use outside of school hours until 9pm to avoid disturbance to nearby residential properties.
Planning convener, Councillor Ian McAlpine, recently visited the site to see for himself where the new synthetic hockey pitch and running track will be located.
Mr McAlpine commented: "As a former pupil of Eastwood High I am delighted to support this development. I was never a hockey player when I was younger but I did hone my football skills on this very site. It’s good to know a new generation of pupils will be able to develop their own sports skills on the new synthetic pitch and running track."
