Since the collapse of a length of retaining wall on the A72 adjacent to Neidpath Castle on the outskirts of Peebles, Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has been working closely with its consultant in order to provide a robust and cost-effective solution.
The consultant presented a number of remedial options with the Council choosing its preferred solution. The consultant developed this option through to detailed design and this information has now been reviewed and approved by SBC officers.
SBC's in-house contractor SBC Contracts has been appointed as principal contractor by the Council and is currently in the process of preparing to undertake the required remedial works.
The necessary works are due to commence on site on the 29 August 2011 with the construction period programmed to take 12 weeks.
SBC is fully aware of the importance of this route to the local and wider communities and, as such, has chosen a remedial solution that should enable one lane of traffic to remain open throughout the duration of the works with continued appropriate traffic management in place.
