Following the successful completion of the Scottish Borders Schools PPP project both Eyemouth and Earlston High Schools have recently been awarded a BREEAM “Excellent” rating for Environmental Performance.
This is a recognised and established assessment tool for evaluating the overall environmental performance of a building, with specific criteria standards to be met for different building types; BREEAM Courts, BREEAM Education, BREEAM Industrial, BREEAM Healthcare, BREEAM Offices, BREEAM Retail, BREEAM Prisons, BREEAM Multi Residential and BREEAM Bespoke.
The BREEAM standards cover ten categories of sustainability including; management, health & wellbeing, energy, transport, water, material, waste, land use & ecology, pollution and innovation.
Each category is detailed in the BREEAM assessor manual, while credit scores are targeted to enable a building to obtain a series of BREEAM ratings from unclassified, pass, good, very good, excellent and outstanding.
The targeted score for “Excellent” is 70 – 85%. The score obtained by Eyemouth and Earlston High Schools were 70.50% and 71.09% respectively. Both these schools also obtained an “A” rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
"This is a major achievement for GRAHAM and it sets a standard of attainment which we seek to emulate and exceed," a company spokesperson said.
