The next phase of ACHA’s wider regeneration work in Campbeltown was officially opened recently by local Councillor, and ACHA Board member, Rory Colville.

The eight allotments developed at New Parliament Place come with a shed and a greenhouse and the tenants will all receive a garden starter pack. It is hoped that the allotments will allow fresh fruit and vegetables to be grown within the confines of the housing development.

Commenting at the opening, Councillor Colville said: “Man’s earliest settlements were all based on each family having enough ground to feed themselves. I am delighted that ACHA have continued this basic principle. The creation of these allotments will promote the social benefits of gardening, including health, education and community well-being.”

Alastair MacGregor, Chief Executive of ACHA, added: “I am really pleased that we have been able to do this. Housing regeneration is much more than bricks and mortar. These allotments will encourage healthy outdoor activity and produce good local produce. It brings back happy memories for me. As a boy in the 1970s I had an allotment and I sold the vegetables in Oban for pocket money.”
