The regeneration of Denny’s town centre took another significant step forward this week as Falkirk Council published notice of its intention to demolish a number of properties in the area.

A recent meeting of the Denny Development Group (involving retailers and representatives of the local community) heard how notices will be issued this week for the demolition to commence. The demolition tender has been prepared and will be issued to contractors in May.

Once statutory approvals are gained, the tender will be awarded and demolition work over two phases at the Church Walk blocks will start in August 2011.

The phasing, which involves demolition work at the blocks facing Duke Street and at the northern end of Stirling Street, reflects the progress of the acquisition programme and the need to balance this with business’s requirements to continue to trade.

The Council is also continuing its work with Henry Boot plc and is in the process of confirming a foodstore operator to occupy the scheme's largest unit prior to submitting a detailed planning application for the delivery of the scheme.
