Help Decide The Future of Scottish Social Housing

Clackmannanshire Council and the Tenants Information Service (TIS) are hosting a consultation event on the Scottish Social Housing Charter on Thursday 21 April - and they want tenants to come and join in.

Want to have your say on the standards social landlords should meet? Think you need to learn more about the Scottish Social Housing Charter? Then come along to Hawkhill Community Centre, Alloa, between 10am - 12.30pm.

Portfolio holder for regeneration, Councillor Janet Cadenhead, said: "It's important that we know what our tenants want, so that we can make sure the service we're providing meets their expectations. With changing legislation, tenants may want to find out how the Council and other social landlords are regulated."

New legislation, the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010, includes powers to modernise the regulation of social housing provided by Councils and Housing Associations. A new independent Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) will look after the interests of tenants, homeless people and others who use the services that social landlords provide.

The Scottish Social Housing Charter will be a starting point for the SHR to assess the performance of social landlords as the Charter will detail outcomes for housing, transparency of the Housing Revenue Account and tenant involvement with the assessment of landlord performance.

The Council hopes that tenants and prospective tenants come along to the event where they will be able to take part in focus groups and give feedback on important issues such as rent levels, anti-social behaviour and repairs.

Comments will be collated and fed back to the Scottish Government.

As spaces are limited please contact Michelle Flynn on 01259 452404 or by email at mflynn@clacks.gov.uk to confirm your attendance.
