Web Survey Helps Shape Affordable Housing Needs

The City of Edinburgh Council is carrying out an online survey on affordable housing needs in the Capital.

The results will help shape the Council’s future housing policy and all Edinburgh residents can take part in the survey which runs until 28 February.

Housing leader, Councillor Paul Edie, said: “This is the first time we have carried out such an online survey which we hope will give us a clearer picture of the affordable housing needs in the city.

“It asks questions about households and the cost of housing in the city such as:

- Would people be interested in renting if part of the rent acted as a deposit to buy the home at a later date?

- Are people interested in shared equity schemes?

- What sort of homes are people looking for and in which parts of the city?

“By taking part in the survey people will help ensure future strategies take into account their needs regarding affordable housing.”

The survey is the latest in a series of innovative projects being taken forward by the Council’s housing department to drive forward affordable housing development in Edinburgh.

These include the first new Council homes for a generation being built in the city, the National Housing Trust scheme and various shared equity schemes.

The City of Edinburgh Council has also been rated as the best local authority housing service in Scotland following an inspection by the Scottish Housing Regulator.
