Green Light For Golf Resort

Angus Council has approved plans for a £55 million golf, hotel and residential property development near Broughty Ferry, Dundee designed by Archial, one of the country’s largest architectural practices and a member of the global Ingenium Group of companies.

The development is the creation of local entrepreneur Mike Forbes and is located adjacent to his Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort.

The Angus will feature an international competition-standard 18-hole championship golf course endorsed by Ryder Cup legend Darren Clarke alongside a five-star hotel with spa and holiday lodges, and a golf youth academy.

Residential housing, including luxury fairway-side villas, along with mainstream and affordable housing, form part of a 160-property phased enabling development within the site, which will link to the adjacent village of Wellbank.

Derek Reid, Director at Archial, said: “It has been a privilege to lead the highly experienced team to successfully secure outline planning consent for this bold and ambitious vision for an international-standard leisure development in the heart of Angus. This approval marks the realisation of two years of very enjoyable but intensive effort, working closely with the Forbes family and Angus Council officials.

“We believe that we have crafted a masterplan which fully realises the potential of this unique and fantastic location, complements and builds on the success of the current Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort which Archial has helped the Forbes family develop, and offers the people of Angus a sustainable long-term world class golfing and leisure tourist destination.

“We are committed to continuing to work with the local officials and community in refining and developing the outline design proposals and look forward to engaging in the next stage of the design process.”

The existing Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort comprises a nine-hole golf course, putting greens and extensive fishing ponds. Four-star self-catering accommodation is provided in 12 woodland lodges, with dining facilities and function suite at Kingennie Country House.

An exclusive luxury housing development, Kingennie Fields, which has also been delivered by an Archial-led team and has won a string of design awards (including most recently Luxury House of the Year in the 2010 Scottish Home Awards) lies adjacent to the site.
