Kirriemuir group Youth Power have enlisted the help of local roads maintenance company S & S Grewar to carry out improvements to the BMX track on Kirriemuir Hill.
The track was constructed several years ago by Angus Council, and is maintained by the council as part of regular park keeping at Kirriemuir Hill.
The BMX group wants to see the track upgraded and improved, but there are no plans by the council to undertake this work in the near future.
A spokesperson for Angus Council said: “The track does not require remedial work at present and financial constraints mean that any upgrade of the track would not be planned by the council in the foreseeable future.
“We welcome the success of the young people in gaining the help of S & S Grewar to undertake this upgrade to the track.
“Youth Power, which is supported by the council’s community learning and development service - working with the local community planning team - has been assisting the BMX bikers in their attempts to have the track upgraded. The bikers have also been helped to improve their bike maintenance skills, learn about team-building and raise funds.
“The upgraded track will be maintained by the council, as at present.”
Work is expected to begin on upgrading the track in the next few weeks during which time some disruption to users of the car park situated next to the BMX track will be unavoidable.
