Laurie Footbridge in Wilton Lodge Park, Hawick, is due to be closed to the public for ten weeks while essential maintenance work and painting takes place.
The work is due to start on Wednesday 13 October.
The main contractor, who will carry out painting, concrete repairs and resurfacing works to the bridge, which was first opened by HRH Prince of Wales on 3 December 1924, will be Border Coatings (Scotland) Ltd, from Earlston, with the parapet replacement works being carried out by Gordon Ferguson Engineering from Kelso.
The alternative route for crossing the river is via the footbridge behind Hawick High School, or the bridge beyond the childrens’ play area and the outdoor games area.
