Kirk Natural Stone Complete First Renovation Project

Construction News Image
Kirk Natural Stone Developments in Turrif, Aberdeenshire, have just completed their first renovation project.

Auchry Cottage was built at the beginning of the last century as a workers cottage for Auchry Farm. Very little work had been carried out internally since the 1950’s.

The aim was to use the solid structure of this well build cottage to create a modern home using only high quality materials while retaining the charm and character of the cottage.

The work involved total renovation including:

-Plumbing/Heating – completely re-plumbed, new oil fired radiator system

-Electrics – total re-wire & new chrome sockets

-Oak doors, facings & skirts throughout

-Internal granite window cills throughout

-External sandstone window cills throughout

The kitchen had installed a high quality fitted kitchen with Baltic Brown granite worktops.

Two new sandstone fireplaces were installed in the public rooms while a range of stunning natural stone flooring includingTaiga Dolomit, Tuscany, Perlato Olympo limestone and Oyster quartzite slate was used to floor the kitchen, utility room, bathroom and hall.

Martin Kirk MD said: “Although it was not a new build project, we still wanted to leave the Kirk Natural Stone Developments seal of quality and achieved this by using natural stone and oak wood throughout the property.”

The estimated value of the property based on refurbishment to a liveable standard has been far exceeded by using high quality natural stone and timber products.

The owner will have a traditional well built cottage, with traditional building materials used to provide a modern high quality home.

With the current focus on sustainability, stone is unrivalled in terms of longevity, low maintenance and whole life costings.

Kirk Natural Stone Developments are pleased to offer design guidance on the use of natural building stone.
