Community Sports Hub Consultation Begins

The communities of Linwood, Johnstone and Paisley are being invited to have their say on new multi-million pound community and sports facilities in their areas.

Consultation evenings have been scheduled so that people can view and discuss details and illustrations on Renfrewshire Council’s proposals for £37.5m worth of new and improved facilities.

The facilities in Linwood, Johnstone and Paisley will form a key part of the council’s £92m ‘Building Better Communities’ investment programme.

Johnstone High School will host the first consultation evening from 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday, 21 September.

The school will be the focus of a £6.3m community sports hub featuring a 25m four lane swimming pool, dance studios, fitness gym and a full size synthetic pitch in addition to the existing four court sports hall.

Linwood Sports Centre will have a new community sports hub in the grounds of the existing sports centre featuring a 25m six lane swimming pool, teaching and fun pools plus an eight court sports hall, fitness suite and dance studio.

The new Linwood complex will integrate sports and leisure facilities alongside adult learning disability day services.

The consultation meeting for Linwood will be held in the dance studio of Linwood Sports Centre from 6pm to 9pm on Wednesday,22 September.

Paisley’s Lagoon Leisure Centre will host a consultation evening from 6pm to 9pm on Monday, October 25.

The popular sports facility will benefit from £7.1m investment in a community sports hub and the provision of adult day care services. The existing arena will accommodate an extended fitness gym plus flexible space to host activities such as skateboarding and mountain biking.

“As plans for this major investment becomes more detailed, people are getting to understand more about the scope of these proposals,” said a council spokesperson.

“These consultation evenings will give people the chance to view the plans and ask questions about the new facilities. We’d urge people to take this opportunity to find out more. People can drop in anytime between 6pm and 9pm on the designated evenings. There will be a team there to answer any questions and take on board views or comments as far as possible within the overall design and budget.”
