Lovell has been chosen to build ten new energy-efficient homes at Penicuik in Midlothian for Melville Housing Association.

The £772,000 development at Cuiken Terrace will create eight two-bedroom flats and two one-bedroom flats, built in two blocks, which will all be for rent through the housing association.

Sustainable features include solar-powered hot water systems and enhanced insulation, enabling homes to achieve a 15 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions against current Building Regulations. The development is set to be completed in March 2011.

“This development will deliver ten desperately-needed affordable homes in an area of Midlothian where there is a particular shortage,” said Melville Chief Executive Andrew Noble. “We appreciate the hard work of Lovell and are extremely grateful for the continued support of both Midlothian Council and the Scottish Government, whose help and funding have made this project possible.”
