Letham youth group The Basement has asked Angus Council to lease it a piece of land in Dempster Park, to site a portacabin to use as a youth centre.
The Basement is a registered charity which was established around four years ago to provide a facility for young people to take part in activities which were not otherwise available in the village.
The group’s young people meet weekly in the Community Learning and Development Centre at Forfar Academy but have been fundraising for a permanent facility for the past four years.
Neighbourhood Services committee agreed at their meeting on Thursday 19 August, to enter into discussions with the group about the lease of a piece of ground 18 x 4 metres on which they can site a portacabin.
It was also agreed, in a separate discussion, that the director of Neighbourhood Services should establish whether or not The Basement is interested in purchasing a surplus former housing unit, known as Park Homes, for use as a youth centre.
