Fife Council has agreed to buy the former ADC building at Bankhead, Glenrothes as part of its plans to modernise and rationalise the buildings it owns across Fife.

The new facility will become a depot hub for the council in central Fife bringing together a number of services including grounds maintenance, building services, fleet services, parts of transportation and environmental services as well as storage for council vehicles and equipment. The move will mean that eight buildings currently used by the council in the area can be vacated and sold off or the leases terminated – helping offset the purchase cost of the new facility.

Council Leader Peter Grant commented: “This is a great investment for the council. This building’s location as well as its flexible space and layout makes it ideal for a number of council services currently housed in accommodation that’s no longer fit for purpose.

“By bringing together services under one roof we’ll improve service delivery and make savings in the longer term.”

Fife Council will not move into the facility immediately with the current tenants Amazon.co.uk continuing to operate from the site.

Added Councillor Grant: “Amazon is an important local employer and we are in discussions with them regarding options for the future.”
