ScottishPower Ticks All the Right Boxes In Community Awards

ScottishPower is amongst a small group of businesses awarded Business in the Community’s (BITC’s) coveted National Big Tick for two of its projects and reaccreditation for a third project.

The esteemed Awards for Excellence reward businesses who demonstrate the positive impact they have had on society, and also the business benefits created by ensuring that being responsible is integral to their business model.

The Awards for Excellence were held on Wednesday 2 June together with The Sustainable Scotland Summit, Scottish Business in the Community’s (SBC’s) largest, most prestigious members’ event. The summit united Scotland’s most influential business and decision makers, including HRH Prince Charles Duke of Rothesay and Alex Salmond First Minister of Scotland, to discuss the solutions to the challenges and opportunities facing Scotland as it moves towards a more sustainable future.

The awards were presented by HRH Prince Charles Duke of Rothesay, and celebrate businesses that have shown innovation, creativity and a sustained commitment to responsible and sustainable business practice.

ScottishPower received a Big Tick in the Employability award category for its Skillseeker Programme1 and in the Education award category for its Powerwise2 project. The energy provider has also been reaccredited with a Big Tick for the Power in Partnership category for its partnership work with the National Grid in the North Staffordshire Warm Zone3. Furthermore, the company’s Skillseekers Programme is also shortlisted for consideration as the National Example of Excellence in the Employability category – the overall winner of which will be announced at an event on 5 July.

Nick Horler, CEO at ScottishPower, was on hand to collect the awards at the event. Mr Horler said: “We are delighted to receive two new Big Ticks and one reaccreditation. We take a sustained approach to corporate social responsibility which is embedded through all levels of our organisation. We understand that in order to build a successful and sustainable business it is vital that we demonstrate our commitment to responsible business practices.

“It is a real credit to our employees who run these programmes, and all the partners that help make this success possible. The teamwork that goes into projects such as these helps thousands of people across the country.”
