Work recommences this week to complete the repair of the damage caused by stormy weather and high seas to Montrose promenade and sea wall last month.

DJ Laing contracts have now sourced setts similar to the existing ones on the promenade and are due to commence the reinstatement of the concrete slab and setts.

Upon completion of these works, this section of the promenade will be opened up to the public.

The collapse of the wall also toppled the famous William Lamb statue Minesweeper. The statue was undamaged and will shortly be restored to its original position.

Councillor David May, convener of Angus Council Infrastructure Services which includes the roads service, explained: “Terradat Ltd have now been appointed to carry out geophysical surveys of the promenade, and they will be on site from Tuesday 1 June 2010 for four days.

“As the survey is being carried out, Angus Council staff plan to open up sections of the promenade, if the results of the survey indicate that there are no further voids and no risk to public safety.”
