Over 150 Leith properties will be modernised by the Port of Leith Housing Association (PoLHA) to achieve the Scottish Quality Housing Standards (SHQS) this year.
Ninety three flats on Buchanan Street, 24 on North Junction Street, 15 on Coburg Street, 11 on Shore Street, five on North Fort Street, one on Water Street and one on Maritime Street will all benefit when work starts in the summer.
In 2006, the Scottish Government set standards for housing quality that all social landlords should achieve by 2015. The Association has a programme of work funded to deliver this which includes replacing kitchens, upgrading bathrooms and making homes more energy efficient with modern heating systems.
Kevin Wilson, Property Manager at PoLHA, said: “We are committed to improving the lives of our tenants and bringing as many homes up to SHQS as quickly as possible. Work will be underway in the summer for the latest round of properties.”
To date, PoLHA has upgraded over 700 properties – almost 45% of the planned programme.
