Scottish politicians are among over 200 candidates standing for election in constituencies across the country who have backed a pledge to build more affordable homes.

The National Housing Federation said a significant number of prospective parliamentary candidates (PPCs) standing for Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the Conservatives and the Greens had signed up to its election pledge.

The pledge stateed: "I pledge to back the building of more affordable homes and to work towards all constituents having access to decent, affordable housing in safe and sustainable communities."

At the time of writing, a total of 245 PPCs had backed the commitment.

The Federation's Assistant Director Paul Rees said: "It's great to see so many candidates running for election backing our pledge to build more affordable homes.

"With record numbers of people stuck on housing waiting lists and demand growing by the day – it's crucial that politicians make a firm commitment to tackling the housing crisis after the election."
