Two blocks of hard to let flats in Hillview, Brechin are to be emptied and the remaining tenants rehoused elsewhere, as part of an ongoing regeneration of the area.
Plans will be drawn up for a different use of the properties, or for their demolition and re-use of the cleared site if that option is chosen.
Angus Council Neighbourhood Services Committee heard at their meeting on Thursday 15 April that the flats at 47-58 Hillview have been affected by issues of low demand for some time and have suffered from a high turnover of tenants. There are also issues of anti-social behaviour associated with the flats.
Councillor Jim Millar, convener of Neighbourhood Services said: "We plan to rehouse the remaining tenants in the blocks as quickly as possible, so we can progress plans without undue delay. A previous similar initiative in the town’s Queen’s Park area proved beneficial. In the light of the unpopularity of these flats, we feel this is the best way forward.
"We aim to provide good quality housing throughout all our communities in Angus, and to use our resources to best effect."
