An iconic Glasgow hotel refurbishment is about to be completed.

As well as having the architectural heritage fully restored, as many as 150 new full and part-time jobs are also to be created, as the building contract comes to an end at the Grand Central Hotel, above Central Station.

The project is due to reopen in September after a £20m refurbishment for owners Principal Hayley who said they are looking for staff in conference and banqueting, reservations, maintenance, reception, kitchen, events and finance.

The hotel, which opened in 1883, has attracted guests such as Frank Sinatra, Laurel and Hardy and the Queen.

Principal Hayley purchased the 350,000 sq ft hotel in 2009 and began an extensive refurbishment.

The building has been "stripped back", uncovering many of its original features including marble floors and intricate cornicing which are now being fully restored.

When it re-opens in September 2010 it will offer 186 bedrooms and 21 meeting rooms, a champagne bar overlooking Central Station's concourse and a new bar, restaurant and deli on Hope Street next to the station entrance.
