A brand new £400,000 state-of-the-art skatepark in Renfrew is now open to the public.

Renfrewshire Council have taken down the fencing and unveiled the new skatepark in Robertson Park.

The project has been funded by the Scottish Government's Fairer Scotland Fund and the Renfrew Common Good Fund.

The facility is based on a design by local skateboard group 30 Acres, and created by leading UK skatepark builders Gravity Parks.

Renfrewshire Council Leader Derek Mackay said: "I am delighted that the new skatepark is now open to the public. It is an excellent facility which is already attracting interest from around the country and demonstrates Renfrewshire Council's commitment to providing first-rate facilities that local people want to see in their communities."

Work, which began on the skatepark in October 2009, has seen the former putting green in Robertson Park transformed for use by skateboards and BMXs.

The 1300 square metre park includes sprayed concrete and brick obstacles, such as bowls, quarter pipes, banks, hips, blocks and rails.
