Work to install the huge steel beams which will make up the new Mollinsburn Overbridge is continuing this weekend due to mechanical problems with the 1200 tonne crane last weekend.

A replacement crane has been arranged for this weekend.

When completed the £320 million M80 Stepps to Haggs Completion project will bring improved journey times, reliability and safety for people using this busy route, with a 30-40 per cent reduction in journey times during peak travel, equating to a reduction of approximately 15 minutes for motorists.

There will also be substantial relief from the long-term traffic congestion endured by the communities living along the existing A80.

Hugh O'Connor, HMG General Manager said: "It is unfortunate that the work planned for last weekend had to be postponed due to mechanical breakdown of the crane.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this and are committed to minimising disruption to the travelling public. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys in advance. This is particularly important to fans travelling to and from the Old Firm game on Sunday."

Drivers should plan their journeys in advance using the Traffic Scotland website and listening to traffic updates on the radio.
