Wood To Receive Energy Award

Sir Ian Wood has won the Energy Institute's prestigious Cadman award, presented internationally for outstanding service to the petroleum industry, at a dinner in Aberdeen this week.

Traditionally, the award has been gifted during Energy Institute events in London, but is being bestowed in his home city at the request of Sir Ian, chairman of energy services giant the Wood Group.

The presentation brings a focus on the Aberdeen, Highlands and Islands branch of the Energy Institute's annual gathering, organised by Trinity International Services, which attracts industry leaders from across the UK and further afield to the Marcliffe at Pitfodels on February 25.

Matt Simmons, Chairman of Houston-based private investment bank Simmons & Company International and a past energy advisor to former President George W Bush, and renowned former solicitor and legal advisor Len Murray will also speak at the event.

The Cadman award was created by the Cadman Memorial Fund to commemorate the late Lord Cadman of Silverdale, chairman of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (now BP) and past president of the Energy Institute.

James Smith, country chairman for award sponsors Shell and president of the Energy Institute, will travel to the Granite City to present the award.

Denis Pinto, MEI, chairman of the Energy Institute branch in the region, said: "This is a significant date in the event calendar for the energy industry throughout the North East of Scotland, and even more so this year as the Cadman Medal travels to the region for the first time.

"We are delighted that Sir Ian Wood has chosen to receive the honour at home, still renowned as the oil capital of Europe and one of the best places to do business in the UK.

"The calibre of our speakers matches the importance of the occasion, and we look forward to hearing from both Sir Ian and Matt Simmons, who has worked at the very highest level in the US, as a Presidential advisor and his insight should be invaluable."
