Inverclyde Council's Education and Lifelong Learning Committee has approved ambitious plans for nursery provision in Gourock.
Binnie Street Community Centre will be extended and refurbished thanks to a £1.3 million investment to become a new Children's Centre offering places for 120 youngsters.
The new service will replace the existing provision of Gourock Pre-5 Centre, Gamble Children's Centre and Gourock Park Pre-School.
The new Children's Centre will include playrooms incorporating a quiet room, a room for parents, a staff room and a cloakroom.
Councillor Loughran added: "We are keen to maintain the Centre as an important focus for local people. As such there will be parent and community activities during the day, such as classes promoting positive behaviour, child development and a carer-toddler group.
"The building will also be available for youth groups, community learning and other activities during the evenings and weekends. There is also the potential for Community Learning and Development to make of use of the facility to deliver youth and adult learning programmes."
