Engineering students from universities and colleges came together with practising engineering and craftsmen recently for a prestigious awards ceremony honouring those individuals who have shown commitment and ability in engineering.

Reid Kerr student Oliver Hay, 18, from Ralston, was awarded the Incorporation of Hammermen Prince Philip Prize for college students, which together with an identical prize for university students is the premier prize of the craft, at the Incorporation of Hammermen Annual Dinner.

Oliver attended the prestigious dinner, held in the Trades Hall in Glasgow, where he was presented with a cheque, trophy and a certificate. Earlier this year, Oliver also won a further Hammermen Award for his achievements.

Richard Brown, an engineering lecturer at Reid Kerr who taught Oliver while at College and attended the recent ceremony, said: "Oliver was, and is, a very dedicated and hard working student, who thoroughly deserved this award.

"It was a privilege to work with him and I have no doubt he will achieve much in his Engineering career.

"It was also very nice to see him being recognised for this and to participate in what was a very well-hosted awards ceremony."
