New Council homes across Stirling will start to be built shortly thanks to an additional £1.175 million in funding from the Scottish Government.

The Council has made a second successful bid for money to build new council houses and now has enough money to provide a total of 72 new homes across the Stirling Council area over the next two years.

The first new homes are already under construction at the former Holy Trinity School in Stirling’s old town.

A further four sites will now be developed at Gargunnock, Bannockburn, Torbrex and St. Ninians to provide 47 additional homes.

Stirling Council Portfolio Holder with responsibility for Housing Strategy Councillor Alasdair MacPherson on welcoming the grant said: "This is fantastic news for the 3,800 people on the Council house waiting list. Stirling Council has now received £1.8 million grant funding from the Scottish Government, which is a significant amount during these difficult times.

"It is vital that there is meaningful consultation with the communities where the proposed dwellings are to be built and elected members have been given an assurance that this will take place early next year."
