A rise in house prices last month in Scotland has been reported by 25% of chartered surveyors, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Scotland.

Scotland was the the only part of the UK where house prices did not fall and 75% of chartered surveyors said prices had remained stable.

Sarah Speirs, from RICS Scotland, said: "Chartered surveyors believe things are picking up in Scotland on the housing front albeit at a very gradual pace.

"Even the traditionally quiet period in December did not deter potential buyers or sellers.

"Figures from the report indicate that prices and the number of sales could continue to creep upwards into spring."

Just 6% of surveyors reported a fall in house prices in November.
