Asda To Open In Cumnock

Asda have announced plans to open a new store in the Cumnock.

The supermarket's arrival forms part of the town centre's regeneration.

Welcoming the news that the chain is to take over the former Somerfield supermarket site, Leader of East Ayrshire Council, Councillor Douglas Reid said: "We very much welcome the news that ASDA is coming to Cumnock Town Centre. This is the first real sign that the commercial world is taking notice of the regeneration taking place in the area."

East Ayrshire Council recently secured £1.1 million from the Scottish government’s Town Centre Regeneration Fund and this, in addition to the £10million capital investment from themselves, will help to help create an improved town centre for residents, businesses and visitors.

Councillor Jim Buchanan, Spokesperson for Environment and Regeneration added: "I am sure that existing retailers in Cumnock will view ASDA as a welcome addition to the town.

"The presence of such a well known company in the town will act as a catalyst for future developments and investment, and as the general economy improves, we should start to see an increase in the demand for new retail space in the town."
