Contractors have moved in to strip one of Bathgate's landmark buildings.

Lindsay House will eventually be demolished and replaced with a brand new West Lothian Council building which will bring together council services under one roof.

Work to decommission the building started on 7 December with a strip of the building from the inside.

In January it is expected that the building will be systematically taken down in phases from the back round to South Bridge Street and it is anticipated that the demolition will be complete by late February.

Leader of West Lothian Council Peter Johnston commented: "The new building along with the Town Centre Regeneration and the new railway station will see the biggest ever investment in the town and change the face of Bathgate for the better."

The new council building will include a community hall with flexible meeting spaces for community groups, Bathgate Library and accommodation for the Advice Shop, the Council Information Services (CIS) centre, a community cafe and office accommodation. Work is due to begin on the new building in March.
