Stirling Council has welcomed the announcement from the Scottish Government that Riverside Primary School will be part of the new school building project.

Portfolio holder for Education, Councillor Graham Lambie, said Riverside was a priority school for development.

He commented: "The proposals for upgrading and developing learning and teaching areas will support and enhance the work that the school is already engaged in around the new national curriculum framework: Curriculum for Excellence.

"It will create a modern environment that will enhance the very good learning and teaching in the school."

This additional funding for Riverside Primary School will enable the Council to continue its investment in this school with improvement works that will include the refurbishment and remodelling of classrooms, shared spaces and the Language & Communications facility as well as various energy efficiency measures including insulation, lighting and heating controls.

It is proposed that the work would be carried out over the course of two years commencing in 2011/12 at a total estimated cost of £3.6m.
