Mivan Secures Glasgow Riverside Museum Contract

Construction News Image
Mivan has secured a major museum fit-out project in Glasgow.

The £4.4 million Glasgow Riverside Museum project is the firm’s largest museum scheme since the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar.

They will be supplying and installing a range of complex exhibition systems, street scenes and displays throughout the new building.

Mivan will be working with Culture and Sport Glasgow and the City Council to realise the designs of Event Communications, both of whom worked with the company previously on the award-winning Glasgow Kelvingrove Museum in 2006.

Mivan’s in-house manufacturing capability, combining specialist joinery and precision metalwork, was a big factor in helping Mivan to secure this project, providing a vast amount of manufacturing hours in the process.

The iconic Museum in Glasgow is being built at a cost of £74 million and has quickly established itself as the latest landmark on the banks of the Clyde. The innovative and inspiring structure is now taking shape as anticipation builds for what will be an outstanding addition to Glasgow’s architecture and cultural heritage. It was designed by the internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid.

The building will celebrate Glasgow’s outstanding contribution to the world of travel and transport. At the heart of the Glasgow Harbour development, it is due to open in spring 2011.

The Heritage Lottery Fund committed £18.1 million to the project, one of the biggest lottery grants ever in Scotland.
