Completed Grove Opens

Pupils entered the completed replacement for Grove Academy for the first time today as the school opened for lessons.

The new building represents the finish of the construction phase of Dundee City Council's £90 million PPP programme to provide six new primaries and two new secondaries.

Pupils have been working in the first part of the replacement Grove since August 2008, but the full finalisation of the project now allows them to enjoy a completely new school.

Alongside classrooms, the new part of the school contains a swimming pool, games hall, gym, dance/drama studio and community facilities.

Dundee City Council education convener Councillor Liz Fordyce helped to welcome pupils to the school for their first day in the new building.

Cllr Fordyce said: "This is a very exciting day for everyone connected with Grove Academy and I am sure staff and pupils cannot wait to get down to work.

"There are great new facilities at the school which will be used and enjoyed by many people."

The replacement of Grove Academy is the last facility to be constructed under the city council's £90 million PPP programme.

The PPP programme is being carried out by Discovery Education, a consortium that includes the city council, Robertson Capital Projects, Robertson Tayside, Robertson Central, Sir Robert McAlpine and Robertson Facilities Management.
