Newbigging's village shop and post office has been awarded an Angus Council Rural Shops and Community Post Office Conversion Grant to help with improvements to the premises.
The grant award of £1569 will cover 90% of the cost of the latest improvement works to Newbigging's store. The award is an increase on the previously agreed sum to take in further work at the shop, namely the installation of new toilet facilities.
Shop owners Colin and Fiona Henderson have previously had grant assistance to upgrade the premises.
The council's Infrastructure Services convener David May said the council was happy to continue to support the shop and post office which is an important part of village life particularly for families and older people.
"Like nearby Monikie there has been a recent increase in housing in the village which should help the long term prospects for the store. The council is therefore happy to support the further improvements allowed under the grant scheme to help Mr and Mrs Henderson sustain this valued local business."
