TESTING ACCESS AND MAINTENANCE
We stock Gent’s S-Quad Self-Test range, known as S4T, which brings functional sensor testing into the detector and connects it to the Honeywell Connected Life Safety Services (CLSS) app. For maintenance contractors, this reduces the need to reach each detector with test equipment when testing its sensing elements. The engineer can select an individual device or groups by zone, loop or panel through the app. Devices and zones outside the test remain active and able to detect a fire. The range includes heat, optical-and-heat and dual-optical-and-heat detectors, with sounder, voice and visual alarm combinations.
HEAT AND SMOKE RESPONSE
The heat test warms the thermistor, the temperature-sensing element, and checks its response to that rise in temperature. On models with optical sensing, the detector generates aerosol inside the device and directs it into the sensing chamber to test the optical response. A fan then clears the aerosol through the smoke entry points, providing a check for masking or obstruction, including a dust cover left in place. On the dual optical models, both optical channels are checked as part of this process. Heat-only versions test their heat sensor and have no optical smoke-sensing element. During normal operation, regular detector readings also build a background performance record, and the panel compares measurements with patterns and rules when assessing a possible fire.
INSPECTION AND RECORDS
Functional testing sits alongside a visual inspection, with Bluetooth Low Energy built into each S4T device to support the engineer’s visit. The Bluetooth connection helps identify the detector and verifies that the engineer has been within visual inspection range. The app provides device information including its number, label, zone description and detector type. CLSS reports distinguish between tests performed manually and through Self-Test, and record whether visual inspection used Bluetooth. They also capture corrective actions, while CLSS records the number of self-tests used by each device. These records bring the testing method and inspection details together for the maintenance contractor.
PANEL COMPATIBILITY AND STANDARD S-QUAD
S4T adds a self-test module and Bluetooth beacon to the standard detector platform and retains compatibility with the S4-700 base. Self-Test operates on Vigilon Plus and Compact Plus systems with compatible firmware, SD-card MCC or MCB hardware and VIGPLUS-LPC-EN loop cards. Nano is not supported. Testing also needs a CLSS gateway for each network domain, the mobile app and an active Self-Test licence. For refurbishment specifications, S4T devices can share a loop with older devices supported by the VIGPLUS-LPC-EN card.
