About Carla MacKay Interiors

Creating beautiful & functional homes

With 20 years of interior design experience, I founded Carla MacKay Interiors to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also personal and functional.

My passion lies in designing homes that feel warm and inviting, with a seamless balance between elegance and comfort. Every project is unique, and I love bringing my clients’ visions to life by working closely with them and ensuring no detail is overlooked.

At the heart of everything I do are my core values: collaboration, creativity, and quality. Whether it’s a full house renovation or a simple room transformation, I’m dedicated to delivering designs that my clients will cherish for years to come.

Design Process

Process & fees
Each project is unique, and my process is designed to offer a highly personalised experience, creating spaces that reflect your vision, style, and needs.

I work closely with each client to understand their unique style and aspirations. My design process is structured to ensure that every project, no matter how big or small, is handled with attention to detail and creativity.

Below is a guide to how I work and what you can expect when we collaborate.

Phase 1: Initial Consultation & Design Brief
I begin every project with a home visit to assess the space, understand your vision, and create a detailed design brief.

This consultation allows me to gather essential information about your space, needs, and any practical constraints.

There is a £60 fee for this visit, which covers the time spent on-site and creating the brief. Following the consultation, I will provide a tailored fee proposal that outlines the cost for the design work required for your project. Fees start at £300.

Phase 2: Design Concept
Once the brief is confirmed, I develop a unique concept for each room, addressing space planning, layout, and specifications for decorative finishes, flooring, furniture, lighting, and accessories.

I present these design concepts to you for discussion and feedback, ensuring your vision comes to life.

Phase 3: Design Development
Following the concept presentation, the designs are refined. If bespoke furniture or custom products are required, I work with trusted tradespeople and skilled craftsmen to bring these elements to life.

Additional site visits may be required to confirm final measurements for estimates, and an implementation plan is created.

Phase 4: Implementation
Once the designs are finalised, I oversee the implementation phase, ensuring that the delivery, installation, and any necessary trades are coordinated smoothly.

I remain available throughout the process to manage details and ensure a seamless experience. Project management fees are applied to certain elements of the project where required.

Timescale
The overall process typically takes 10-14 weeks, depending on the size of the project and the specific design requirements.

The transformation of a room generally takes 2-3 weeks, with disruption kept to a minimum.

Smaller Jobs
If you need help with smaller projects, such as selecting a new blind or a pair of curtains, you won’t be charged the full design fee. Instead, I’ll charge based on the time spent, ensuring you receive personalised advice without the commitment of a full room redesign.

Finishing touches
Bring a touch of Scottish wilderness into any home with the Finn Stag Forest Cushion, inspired by Iona’s painting of a lone stag. This majestic design, part of the Hebrides Collection, evokes the mystery and grace of the forest, making it the perfect gift for any Scottish home.

Available in a range of sizes and luxurious fabric options, including velvet and cotton linen, each cushion is beautifully crafted in the UK with finishes like piped, knife, or Oxford edges.

Gift vouchers are also available. Imagine giving someone the gift of a beautifully transformed space – or treating yourself to one! My interior design gift vouchers are a thoughtful way to inspire creativity, refresh a home, and create a space that feels truly special.
