About Mcghee Training Group
MG Scotland bring 26 years of industry training experience to our clients who operate in a wide variety of sectors including construction, civil engineering, facilities management, utilities, local authorities and oil and gas. When you book with MG Scotland, you can be rest assured of quality and comprehensive training as we are accredited by a number of nationally recognised awarding bodies including:
• CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme)
• NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme)
• SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority)
• AITT (Association of Industrial Truck Trainers)
We deliver construction plant operator training, accredited by CPCS or NPORS, from our fully-equipped training centre in Bathgate using equipment from some of the industry’s leading manufacturers such as Volvo, Terex, Manitou and Hyundai.
Our head office and admin centre is based in Bargeddie, Glasgow where candidates can attend to sit their computer-based CITB ConstructionSkills Health, Safety and Environment Test (required for applying for a CSCS/CPCS card). Both our training centre and head office are ideally located between Glasgow and Edinburgh and are easily accessible from across Scotland and the South.
MG Scotland offer further training in the areas of Driving Skills (4×4 off road vehicles, all-terrain vehicles – ATVs – and Search & Rescue), Groundcare (ride-on mowers, hedge trimmers and pesticides) and Forestry and Arboriculture (chainsaw maintenance, tree felling, pruning and thinning), accredited by NPORS.
Short duration in-house courses are also available, such as abrasive wheels, asbestos awareness, manual handling and safety harness training, ideal for groups looking to enhance their knowledge and understanding of key health & safety topics.
CPCS TRAINING
Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) provides skills cards for the plant sector of the Construction Industry. These cards recognise skills, knowledge and understanding, competence and qualifications of workers responsible for operating plant equipment.
CPCS is recognised by Build UK (formerly the UK Contractors Group UKCG) and Major Home Builders Group (MHBG), amongst others, as the preferred card to comply with codes of practice for competence and certification.
NPORS
The National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) is an alternative accreditation to CPCS and works across the Construction, Industrial, Utilities, Warehousing and Distribution, Agricultural, Ports and Marine sectors. NPORS training and testing is conducted in accordance with published course objectives and learning outcomes which are derived from the National Occupational Standards.
In 2014, the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) took the decision to recognise the NPORS card as acceptable proof of operator competence across their sites (as opposed to just the CPCS card which had, up until that time, been the only one they accepted).
CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test
Construction plant operators looking to apply for a CPCS or CSCS card within the UK construction industry must have the required construction-related qualifications and training AND also pass the CITB Health Safety and Environment (HS&E) Test within the previous two years. This test is widely known in the industry as the ‘Touchscreen Test’.
SQA HEALTH AND SAFETY IN A CONSTRUCTION ENVIRONMENT
The SQA Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment at SCQF level 4 is an entry level qualification for labourers entering building sites for the first time.
This 1-Day course is the first step to achieving a CSCS Green Labourers Card (card valid for 5 years). To achieve the CSCS Green Card, delegates must also successfully pass the operatives CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test.
IN-HOUSE TRAINING
MG Scotland are pleased to offer a range of short-duration, in-house training courses. These half-day or full-day courses can take place at our premises or on your site and are particularly beneficial in raising awareness on key topics that may affect your staff in their day-to-day roles.
