About Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies

Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies

At Curtiss-Wright, we offer our customers a single source solution and point of contact for all their controlled metal surface treatments, supporting their requirements through our global network of over 70 worldwide facilities and on-site field teams, improving and reducing turnaround times and costs.

We are metal surface improvement specialists; protecting a range of components from common failures and reducing maintenance costs for key industries such as aerospace, oil and gas, automotive, medical and general industrial markets.

Our Metal Surface Technology Treatment Services
Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies offers a range of specialist metal surface treatments, protective coatings and processes for key industries.

We increase the performance and life of metal components by protecting them against premature failure due to fatigue, corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, fretting, friction and galling, as well as environmental and thermal variation using our high performance metal surface technology.

Surface treatments and the problems they solve:
Controlled Shot Peening
Tensile stresses induced during welding, grinding, machining and heat treatment are replaced with beneficial compressive stresses proven to prevent fatigue and stress corrosion cracking.

Shot Peen Forming
Creates curvature in aircraft wing skins to enhance lift and efficiency and to protect against fatigue. Also used to correct the distortion of components following manufacturing.

Laser Peening
Laser peening induces compressive stress with precision accuracy into key areas of a component up to 5 to 10 times deeper than other conventional cold working techniques.

C.A.S.E Isotropic Superfinishing
Removes surface asperities to create a mirror like finish, reducing macro and micro-pitting, oil temperature and noise whilst promoting lubricant retention.

Thermal Spray Coatings
Wear resistant and barrier coatings such as HVOF, arc and flame spray, protecting against high temperatures, wear, corrosion and oxidation, as well as restoring parts to their original condition.

Engineered Coatings
The correct coating system will improve part wear life and reduce maintenance costs. Protecting against environmental damage and corrosion. We can also develop coatings for new applications.

Parylene Conformal Coatings
Parylene is a highly lubricious and ultra thin conformal coating with outstanding chemical, moisture and electrical barrier protection for metals, elastomers, electronics and plastic.

Onsite spraying, component repair and overhaul services
Our on-site spraying and component coating and repair services are suited to the processing of plant equipment which cannot be moved due to size or fixed installation. Our customers are typically in the aerospace, oil, gas, chemical and power generation industries covering MRO work for example aircraft and steam turbine repairs but also welded structures such as bridges, storage vessels and damaged street furniture and other architectural applications. In addition processing plants such as steel and paper mills, mining facilities and food processing.

Peenflex protective coating, moulding and masking
Our protective mouldings and maskings are damage and abrasion resistant – a simple but cost effective solution which will protect sensitive areas of metal components through the various stages of processing, lifting, moving, storage and despatch.

Peentex surface engineering and architectural finishing
Controlled shot peening has long been associated with engineered surface finishing of metals including steels, stainless steels, aluminium, titanium and copper alloys.

Quality
Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies understands the challenges faced by customers to reduce costs and turnaround times while making metal components and equipment last longer and perform more effectively.

Our quality of service is a high priority so we ensure that our controlled peening and component coating facilities are fully accredited to current industry and customer standards including NADCAP, ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100 Rev C.

Worldwide service
Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies currently have over 70 international divisions with continued expansion within our customers’ own facilities or location close by, as well as dedicated field crews who can be mobilised worldwide to repair fixed or large equipment.
