About Wernick Buildings

Permanent modular buildings from Wernick

Leaders in the design, manufacture and sale of quality modular accommodation.

Wernick Buildings is Britain’s oldest independent manufacturer and supplier of permanent modular buildings, with five Divisional offices covering England, Scotland and Wales.

We offer a full turnkey service, and can take full responsibility for your building from conception to completion. Putting your project in our hands gives you one point of contact to ensure a high level of customer service.

The steel framed modular systems designed by Wernick Buildings have the flexibility to provide accommodation solutions in a wide range of sectors, including education, healthcare, custodial and even specialist requirements. It’s a proven concept that’s more cost-effective than traditional building in every respect.

Why Wernick Modular Buildings?
  • Speedy completion. Modular construction can be up to 50% faster than traditional build.
  • Lower cost. Generally more cost effective than traditional build without compromising on quality.
  • More dependable build programme. Factory built modules are not affected by bad weather conditions or other unforeseen variables on site. Foundations and main structure are prepared simultaneously. Short delivery window, then finishing work is completed inside the building.
  • Quality product. Factory built to strict tolerances and quality control standards. Wernick Buildings is accredited to ISO:9001-2000. You can see further accreditations here.
  • A 25 year structural warranty is offered as standard, plus a 5 year warranty on the general external fabric of the building. If a building is correctly maintained a design life of 60 years or more can be expected.
  • Full project management. We provide one point of contact for all our services, including design, planning applications and building regulation applications.
  • Sustainable form of building. Considerably less waste than traditional methods. Minimum disruption and noise on site.
  • Buildings can be finished with a brick skin or other cladding system, which together with a pitched tiled roof gives an attractive ‘traditional’ appearance.

Wernick Buildings appreciates that every client’s need is different. We take a more personal approach to each project, which is why instead of having a large range of products we have developed building systems flexible enough to meet most requirements. These systems are very different from each other, to make sure choosing the right one for your application is simple. The vast majority of our buildings are designed and built to order. This offers the best of both worlds; a custom building based on proven design principles. We do also stock a small number of buildings, for instance small classrooms and portable cabins, which can be bought off the shelf.

  • The Rapidplan system can offer open plan modular buildings for standard or commercial applications such as schools hospitals and offices, as well as sleeping accommodation; for example in student dormitories or barracks.

  • Our Citycabin system is based on executive standalone cabins that can serve as anything from offices to construction site accommodation.

  • PCflex is a secure modular system with applications primarily in police custody, but can also be used in mental health facilities where the security and safety of staff and patients is paramount. PCflex also has also been used for specialist buildings within the MOD sector.

Wernick Buildings Has St Cadoc’s Primary School Pupils Covered

One of the most valuable assets a school can possess is space; for classes, physical education, after school clubs or simply somewhere for children to shelter during a drizzly breaktime. Each function comes with its own requirements in terms of equipment and design. As a school that is rapidly expanding, St Cadoc’s Primary School near Glasgow needed space for all these things. They found what they were looking for in a modular building provided by Wernick Buildings.

With so many requirements for new accommodation, a new building would above all have to be flexible. In practise this meant the building would need several non-standard features. The building has several security features, including intruder alarms, roller shutters and a video door entry system. To be able to use the building for P.E, however, a 3m clear ceiling height was needed.

To avoid possible damage that might occur during play, Wernick also suggested using an underfloor heating system in place of air conditioning units or wall mounted radiators. This helped the building to achieve compliance with Scottish Building Standards, including SBEM and SER certifications. “Scottish Building Regulations are different from the rest of the UK,” commented Padraig Foley, Company Energy Assessor. “They are more exacting than those in England and Wales, but at the same time more in line with a modular way of thinking. In both instances there’s more work done before construction begins, with the intent of reducing the time on site.”

Outside, children can take shelter from both the rain and the sun under a UV protected canopy. This covers part of the concrete terrace, which features wide stairs, a DDA compliant access ramp and a seating area. The front of the building is finished with wood cladding and colour coated steel which matches the school’s colours. Alex Campbell, school Caretaker, was impressed with the appearance. “I like the colours that were chosen, but above all I was surprised at how much it looks like a traditional building.”

The real value of the building, however, comes from features that cannot be seen but which allow great potential for expansion. The structure is also designed to be able to support a second storey; ideal for a school that is still expanding.
