Too many workplace accidents are still caused by using equipment that is not fit for use. These accidents can have grave consequences. Imagine a scaffold collapsing: co-workers and passers-by might be seriously injured with colossal impact for themselves, their families and your business. Think about what happens when your fire extinguishers do nothing when they should, when valves suddenly break down, or when the reverse warning indicator on a forklift does not work

Diligent inspection planning, thorough equipment inspections and clear inspection reports and histories can save lives, avoid suffering and major costs in a lot of industries.

Laddertag updated to the new BS EN 131 norm

Accidents with ladders usually occur because either the wrong type of ladder is being used, the ladder is being used improperly or the ladder is in poor condition. The Laddertag can be a big help to prevent accidents with defective or worn out ladders. Laddertag has just been aligned with the new BS EN 131 product standard for portable ladders.

At the point of need

With Laddertag, everyone can recognise at a glance which ladders are fit for use. All necessary information is shown at the asset using a highly visible and easy to use holder and insert system. The holder is permanently attached to the ladder in a non-obtrusive way, while its insert shows an easy to read inspection trail, planned inpection dates, inspector signatures and a ladder safety checklist. When a ladder is no longer fit for use, the insert is removed which leaves a clear ‘Do Not Use This Ladder’ message on the holder. Ladders with missing inspection signatures should also not be used.

Aligned with BS EN 131

The new product standard organises all portable ladders in a non-professional and professional category. Newly made portable ladders should always have a minimum capacity of 150 kg and comply with new dimensional, strength and durability requirements. The Laddertag insert, with ladder inspection checklist on the back, has been updated to reflect these changes.

Regular inspection

Regular ladder inspections should be carried out by a competent person who can sign off fit-for-use ladders. How often inspection is needed can be determined in a risk assessment. One Laddertag insert can communicate up to 12 planned inspection dates, includes a pre-use ladder checklist guide, space to record a unique ladder reference number and the ladder’s intended use, all where this information is most relevant, namely on the ladder itself.

Easier compliance and more workplace safety

Visual tagging solutions enable companies to increase workplace safety and facilitate compliance with EU Directives by communicating vital information on the equipment itself where it can be seen by all workers.

Easier compliance

Visual tagging solutions each consist out of a durable holder and removable inserts. They facilitate compliance by keeping inspection records on the equipment itself. Inspectors can place the date of their inspection and their signature on the tag's removable insert when the equipment is deemed fit for use. If not, the insert can be removed, leaving a clear 'do not use'-message on the equipment. Workers can immediately see on the equipment itself when it was last inspected and if it was deemed fit for use, along with additional vital safety information to avoid workplace accidents.
