ScottishPower To Begin £15m Glasgow Upgrade Project

Construction News Image
ScottishPower (SP) Energy Networks is to start a £15m upgrade project in Glasgow. The investment is part of the new Finnieston Grid project which will see a major new substation constructed to increase network capacity in the area. Consequently, this will help improve reliability of services for homes and businesses, and support future growth within the surrounding area.

The final stage of the scheme will involve connecting new cables to the Finnieston Grid, and SP Energy Networks has said this will begin next week (9 March). The work will mean a section of Argyle Street, between Derby Street and Kelvingrove Street, will close to vehicles for around two weeks to facilitate the upgrades.

Signed diversions will be in place for motorists.

David Guthrie, SP Energy Networks, Glasgow & Clyde North District Manager, explained: "This is a very significant power upgrade in Glasgow, and it is a major investment. It will ensure that the Glasgow network is modern and robust, and will help us to continue to deliver a highly reliable service for thousands of homes and businesses in the long term.

"Together with Glasgow City Council and stakeholders all efforts are being made to keep traffic flowing. We have now posted signage along the route to advise of the upcoming work.

"We would like to thank residents for their patience so far, and we would encourage people to carefully plan their journeys in advance during this 14 day period."
