Three New Schools For Airdrie Approved

Planning approval has been given for three new primary schools in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire.

At a meeting of the Councils' Learning and Leisure Services Committee earlier this week, it was agreed that plans for new state-of-the-art schools should go ahead.

The projects would see the Dunrobin and Peterson primary schools merge, with a new school constructed on the site of Dunrobin Primary School.


Tollbrae and St Edward's primary schools are expected to move to a new shared campus, located on land within the existing grounds, while a new St Dominic's primary school will be built on the site of the current Petersburn primary school site.

Welcoming the investment, Councillor Jim Logue, Convener of Learning and Leisure Services, said: "I'm delighted that we can get on with planning and constructing these new schools, which will bring enormous benefits to pupils, teachers and the wider communities they serve.

"The revised proposals were found to have three clear advantages: St Dominic's stays within Petersburn, while Tollbrae and St Edward's remain within Gartlea. And the potential of a three school campus option has been avoided."
