Gretna Green Regeneration Commences

A project to regenerate areas of Gretna Green and Springfield has commenced.

In a statement Dumfries and Galloway has said the works will take around four months to complete. The improvement works will include enhancing the community seating area at Headless Cross, as well as creating new a community seating area at Westgill Road. Four sandstone Gateway features will also be designed to highlight the main entrances to both Gretna Green and Springfield, while tree planting will be carried out at Gretna Loaning and in Springfield. In addition, improvements will also be made to the footway at Stormont Terrace.

The project has been developed by the local authority and the CX Project, in consultation with the Gretna Regeneration Steering Group. The works, which have been based on the Gretna Master Plan, are being funded by Dumfries and Galloway Council at a cost of around £250,000.

Welcoming the work, Councillor Craig Peacock, Vice Chair of Dumfries and Galloway Council's Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, said: "I am delighted that work has started to transform and revitalise public space in Gretna Green and Springfield. Gretna Green attracts visitors from all over the world and this will be a much more attractive setting for them and for locals to enjoy."
