The Scottish Veterans' Garden City Association (SVGCA) – Houses for Heroes Scotland – are behind the project, in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council.
Construction work has now started on five new ground-floor wheelchair-adapted homes at Overjohnstone Drive in Wishaw, with the cutting of turf.
Work is expected to be completed in summer 2015, while five additional homes are planned at Flemington in Motherwell.

In the last three years, Houses for Heroes Scotland have housed 90 young disabled veterans and their families transitioning from the armed forces because of injury.
Lieutenant Colonel Richard Callander, SVGCA's Chairman, said: "This support from North Lanarkshire Council, is an excellent example of joint working; it holds up the spirit of the Armed Forces Covenant, so critical in the veterans community."
North Lanarkshire Provost and Armed Forces Champion Jim Robertson, added: "The land the council donated to Houses for Heroes would be worth around £100,000 on the open market, but our priority was to help our injured servicemen and women in any way we can.
"We have worked closely with Houses for Heroes Scotland over the years, and we welcome these additional properties for disabled veterans in Wishaw."
